Big Wheel Race!!

Yesterday was the 9th annual BYOBW Easter Big Wheel race in San Fransisco, the 4th year that I've participated. There I am above with the ubiquitous pink and purple disney fairy princess big wheel. Target must have stocked up big on those ones, because a high percentage of the folks had these big wheels.

You can see me in one of the races, 0:17 - 0:36 in this video:

and in from 0:17 - 0:20 in this video:

you can find more videos and pictures on youtube and flickr if you search for "byobw 2009".

This was the best year yet. I raced 7 times and my big wheel held up for the whole event. Most of the folks I went with this year broke their big wheels on the first run.

I can't wait for next year!!

All Nightmare Long

It's only Tuesday, but this has got to be the best thing to come out this week. Sci-Fi Cold War Soviet zombie plague awesomeness in this video for one of the better songs on Metallica's new album Death Magnetic.

it's a nine minute movie that starts with the 1908 explosion over Tunguska that ends with the conquest of the US by the Soviets. Aliens, balloons, robots, zombies, fires, chaos.

the io9 post I orginally saw this on.

new shoes!

my Black Sabbath vol. 4 Converse arrived today. I accidentally ordered two pairs (because of the crappy flash site converse has) and after much arguing over the phone they agreed to send me a label to return one of the pairs. After seeing them, however, I think I'll keep both.

update: by popular demand (meaning Priya emailed me "WHERE IS THE LINK TO BUY THEM!!!?!?") here is the link

be warned: crappy crappy flash site circa 2002.

Kanye West was (unintentionally) hilarious on Conan last night

I caught Kanye West on Conan and he said something hilarious. I don;t want to spoil it so skip to about 22:50 in the episode.

I wish I could find a better video, but the best I could find is this nbc video. You will probably have to choose the 11/25 episode and sit through a commercial.

Frank is disappointed

Our friend Frank is disappointed in Tony, and some how I got implicated as well. This is what Frank wrote Tony recently:

"Tina told me today that you've been arrested for smuggling artifacts from Taiwan or something and grave robbing. Is that how you're financing your move to Chicago? Casey's probably in cahoots with you. That would explain the swords and the big mustache. We are very disappointed with you."

WHAT? How did I get involved with this graverobbing? All I did was grow a moustache.

so Frank is awesome; more stories about Frank, I think, will inevitably show up in this space.

...anyways, here's a video Tony just sent me.

Brazilian Governor Fires Verb Form

``The present participle is hereby fired from all federal district entities,'' the governor wrote in a decree posted on the government's Web site last night. ``As of today, it is forbidden as an excuse for INEFFICIENCY.''

So absurd. where do they think they are, France?

writers' strike comes to Law & Order

I love cop shows. I can't get enough of them, and it's really the last 4 or 5 months that I've come to feel this way.

My friend Tony knows about my recently acquired affliction and sent me this clip depicting what we should expect should the strike continue.

[actually, I kind of like it.]

when you can't find a unicorn

this works really well as a unicorn chaser substitute.

found on a cracked article about Fortune 500 companies that worked for the Nazis.

in need of a chaser, indeed.

isolated tracks for Sgt.Pepper

This is fantastic. Somebody did a hell of a job isolating different tracks on the Beatle's Sgt.Pepper: First the drums and bass, then guitar and horns, then vocals.

and then all back together again. awesome.

I hope he puts more up soon. mad skills.

via bOINGbOING

update: so maybe not so much mad skills, but stil very cool. it seems these weren't isolated from the cd, but are from four track recordings -- still cool for their the rare-osity fo it. more info.

Rodrigo y Gabriela

OK I admit it -- I'm little slow to the bandwagon again. Misti turned me on to Rodrigo and Gabriela a couple of weeks ago and i've been listening to their self titled album off and on non-stop since (is that even possible?).

They were in a mexican metal band together before moving to Ireland where they took off. They do a cover of "Stairway to Heaven" that reminds me why I fell in love with that song in jr. high.
